My husband and I are looking for a ski boat for the family. This will be our first and have very little experience. We are looking for a 17-19', open bow and no less than 120 hp. My question is about the Bayliner Boats. Out where we live they're everywhere and many are for sale. But we hear that Bayliners are poor quality and to stay away. Any advice about the Bayliner product and/or Maxum? We also were told Sea Ray is a great boat....but found out they're owned by Brunswick who owns Bayliner. we're very confuses and looking for someone who has experience to help. Thanks. Marie

Personally I have had two Bayliner boats a 20' and a 28' and had great success. I have also been worked for the largest Bayliner, Maxum dealer in the US a few years ago. I had the opportunity to go through US Marine plants in Seattle and Spokane WA. To start with Sea Ray caters to the higher end boats, they are great but a lot more money. The Maxum and Bayliner boats structurely are basically the same. The big difference between Maxum and Bayliner is finishing and features. Maxum having all the extra's. The big recommendation I have if you buy and use any boat in the salt water is bottom paint it immediately to prevent gel coat bubbles. Other than that I would not hesitate to buy a bayliner again, but always get more HP you will be sorry if you don't, they tend to under power to keep cost down.
